Annual Theme 2026/2027:
BOUNDARIES
– when the world shifts, leadership does too
Theme and focus:
The VL Summit 2027 will be held in Sønderborg, close to the Danish-German border—a place where borders have historically divided people but today connect economies, businesses, and cultures. Consequently, “BOUNDARIES” serves as a powerful and timely annual theme for VL.
In a rapidly changing world, boundaries are shifting on multiple levels. Geopolitical tensions are altering markets and supply chains, technological breakthroughs are challenging decision-making capabilities, organizations are becoming more fluid, and the leadership role is under increasing pressure. Future leadership is therefore not merely about navigating within existing boundaries, but about understanding, defining, and sometimes shifting them.
Boundaries no longer define only nations; they increasingly define strategy, organizations, and leadership. Thus, the central question is not just where boundaries lie—but who moves them.
The annual theme can be explored through three key dimensions:
Geopolitical boundaries, where politics is increasingly becoming part of the strategic reality for businesses. Danish companies must contend with trade barriers, security policy, regional blocs, European competitiveness, and the green transition.
Organizational boundaries, where hybrid work, partnerships, platforms, and artificial intelligence challenge the traditional distinctions between company, employee, and technology. Organizations increasingly operate as ecosystems, placing new demands on leadership, accountability, and decision-making.
Personal boundaries, where leaders must increasingly balance performance, ethics, sustainability, well-being, and their own personal resources. The leadership role requires resilience, accountability, and the ability to establish healthy boundaries within and for the organization.
The theme focuses on how cybersecurity, responsible AI, and an understanding of defense economics are not merely necessities but can be transformed into competitive advantages. We explore how Danish companies – through strategic and technological foresight – can position themselves more strongly in the future global market.
We do this through a series of VL activities throughout the year, including regional meetings, podcasts, articles, and the VL Summit.
Stay tuned on this page as the annual theme unfolds.

Advisory Board 2026/2027
VL has invited an Advisory Board consisting of top executives, experts and researchers to be idea generators and co-creators in the unfolding of VL’s Annual Theme and the VL Summit.
In VL, we always have a primary focus on leadership and on business, and since we want different angles and perspectives on the Annual Theme, the Advisory Board is specially selected in relation to the industry or field of expertise in which they operate.
We are inspired by the Advisory Board and use their experiences as inspiration to find headlines, presenters and podcasts leading up to the VL Summit on May 26th & 27th, 2027.
